Skagway:
Skagway is located 90 miles northeast of Juneau, at the northern most end of Lynn Canal. “Sagua” was the Tlingit name that means “ the place where the north wind blows”. The first Alaska railroad employed many locals until 1982 when the mine closed. Skagway is now supported by summer tourism.
Lynn Canal:
The Lynn Canal is a narrow scenic passage that is just south of Haines, Alaska. The canal connects Skagway with Juneau and is an important shipping lane. During the Alaska gold rush in 1896 the Lynn Canal was a major route to the gold fields.
