Chrysler registers new trade name: Wrangler Arctic
(Larry P. Vellequette/Toledo Blade, 17 December 2010) -- Even the color blind may be able to guess at the next special-edition version of the Jeep Wrangler coming down the line. A month after announcing an all-black 2011 Wrangler Call of Duty: Black Ops edition, Chrysler Group LLC has registered a new trade name for its 70-year-old sport utility vehicle -- Wrangler Arctic. No details were available in the filing, and a spokesman for the Jeep brand said he had no information about what the Wrangler Arctic might be or when it might be announced. The 2011 model year marks the first time Jeep customers can order a color-matched hard top for Sahara trim-level versions of their two-door and four-door Wranglers, making an all-white Wrangler possible for the first time. If produced, the Arctic would be the latest in what has been a string of special or limited-edition Wranglers revealed over the last year. Previous iterations included the Wrangler Islander, with a large Tiki decal on the hood, and were first revealed about a year ago. The company has since built special "Mountain" editions, as well as the "Black Ops" version announced in November.
