Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive Buenos Aires
Day 2 Fly to Ushuaia
We fly south to Ushuaia (
web cam and info). Free afternoon and evening to enjoy the world’s southernmost city.
Day 3 Ushuaia Tierra del Fuego National Park
Enjoy a morning tour to Tierra del Fuego National Park before boarding our ship, the
Explorer (
information sheet in pdf), in the afternoon.
Day 4 At Sea
During the crossing we’ll meet our guides, ship’s crew and lecturers.
We’ll also begin the lecture and information sessions to learn about
the extraordinary human and natural history of the Antarctic region.
Day 5,6 Falkland Islands
Rockhopper penguins, elephant seals and sea lions are abundant in the
Falklands. Visit Port Stanley and its colourful, friendly inhabitants. (

Day 7,8 At Sea
We sail east towards
South Georgia. Keep your eye out for whales, seals and seabirds.
Day 9-12 South Georgia
Home to many marvels including
Shackleton’s Grave, a former whaling
station and prolific wildlife. A huge colony of king penguins is the
highlight of this part of the journey. (Location establishing picture of

Day 13,14 At Sea
We turn south and sail for two days, retracing Shackleton's route
backwards as we head towards
Elephant Island and the
Antarctic
Peninsula.
Day 15-18 Antarctica
A chance to step foot on Antarctica! Weather and ice permitting we’ll
visit the
South Shetland Islands, and Antarctica itself. Possible
landings include
- Paradise Harbour (aka Paradise Bay),
- Neko Harbour or
- Wilhelmina Bay and
- cruising Lemaire Channel, Errera Channel or Neumayer Channel.
Scientific research stations and abandoned whaling stations will
also be of interest. Conditions permitting we'll attempt two excursions
per day. Abundant wildlife and fantastic ice formations are the
highlights.
Day 19,20 Drake Passage
Head back to Ushuaia across the
Drake Passage. Reflect on our memorable adventure and take in
some final lectures from our experienced staff. Last chance for whale

Day 21 Ushuaia
A final breakfast on the
Explorer before heading to the airport and flying to Buenos Aires.
Day 22 Buenos Aires
A free day to explore
Buenos Aires. In the evening we get together for a farewell dinner and Tango show.
Day 23 Depart Buenos Aires
