About The Creators

My name is Cynthia Closs and I am a teacher at Johnson Elementary School in Watson Lake, Yukon Territory. As part of my certification in the Yukon I have to take two courses on the Yukon. I have chosen Anthropology 220 through Yukon College. As an assignment I am creating a web site on Watson Lake's first nations people, the Kaska. You can conact me at c_closs@hotmail.com .

My name is Deborah Walks Far. I also teach at J.E.S. Grades 1-2 and have Kaska children in that class. I have appreciated doing this assignment because I found a valuable resource ("Traditional Lifestyles of Kaska Women") in the "voices" of Kaska women, one of whom teaches at the same school as myself and Cynthia. Her name is Aggie Magun, the Kaska teacher. I have been able to bring these quotes into my classroom to set the stage for several discussions and the children have been responding to this inclusion, with delightful comments.

I trust that you will find our articles both useful and interesting. Thankyou for your interest.
