Rusty In the play, "Toronto at Dreamers Rock", Rusty is a 16-year-old Native boy who lives in Ottawa. Rusty dresses in ripped up jeans, which gives him a scruffy look. Rusty is lost because he thinks that he doesn’t fit in with his own kind because one foot is on his Native side and the other foot is on the white people side and he doesn’t know where he fits in. Rusty is a very boring person because he doesn’t like doing things very much and he also doesn’t like his parents so he drinks. And the reason why he drinks is to escape reality. He’s depressed because of his family they are poor and they don’t really pay much attention to him. Rusty is a loud person and very careless because he is drinking on a sacred place.

I had a fun Christmas because i got some cool stuff! I got a RC helicopter, a coat, four books, money. I liked the RC helicopter the best but it is so hard to fly. Both me and my dad crashed it and now i need to use my Christmas money to buy parts to fix it.

In the play “Toronto At Dreamer’s Rock” Keesic represents an Odawa boy who comes from the past before the white man came. Keesic is a 16-year-old boy who is traditional. In the way of him being traditional he speaks the Odawa language extremely fluently. Also, in the story Keesic is in a buckskin breech. In many ways Keesic is also very unaware of many things. He has never seen roads before and in the play Keesic asks what they are? Rusty, another character in the play explains that they are like very wide hard paths. After Rusty finishes explaining Keesic gives details on the picture he sees in his mind and says, “ Paths? That big? Hunting must be good to make people big enough to need a path that wide.” He also has no idea what white people are. When white people are announced Keesic asks if they are not well because their skin is white. Keesic is also determined to learn about what is happening in Rusty’s life. He tries to learn about names and different things like cement buildings and other sorts of things. In a way, Keesic is basically determined to have knowledge. So in conclusion, I have to say that Keesic has maybe a little more knowledge than many more people in his lifetime. Even if he is only 16 winters old, he has tones of information that will help all of his people.

Rusty: A Character sketch In the play ‘‘ Toronto at Dreamers Rock’’ Rusty’s an Odawa First Nation male and he’s 16 years old. He seems lost. He feels like he doesn’t belong anywhere. For instance, he doesn’t fit in with the white people and he forgot almost all of his tradition. Furthermore, he thinks beer would get him out of most of his problems. Rusty uses beer to escape rather then taking care of his problems. To his vision friends, beer is the worst drink, He has problems with his family. For example he groaned ‘‘he would be lucky to get a new pair of jeans for the first day of school.’’ Rusty can get pretty angry and the thing is he never learned how to be patient or how to explain things to a person without getting angry. He can be a very quiet person at times, speafically when he went he when to Dreamers Rock to have a beer by him self. Rusty has many problems. He likes this girl, and he doesn’t know how to come forth with it. Also he thinks she doesn’t notice him, but the problem I think is that he’s too quiet. Rusty uses beer to escape rather then taking care of his problems. To his vision friends, beer is the worst drink. He is very ignorant and has to work in his anger problems. He takes it out on things that don’t have any thing to do with. Then he wonders why he’s not well known at school and has no friends. Rusty is at that age were he has to make a choice on would he rather be educated and successful, or be very poor at school. However it also has to do with what kind of family he’s got and how they treat him. He doesn’t really have I a good family to look after him, and nag on him if he does get into trouble.

Keesic: A Character Sketch In the play “Toronto at Dreamers Rock” Keesic represents the past. Keesic is the kind of person who cares greatly about his culture and he respects it. There’s a girl in his culture whom he likes and she likes him, but since they are in the same clan they don’t go out with each other. When Keesic is offered a beer and tries a sip of it he strongly dislikes it, then spits it on the ground. He definitely doesn’t like beer. When the story introduces Keesic, he gets very interested in Rusty’s clothes. He gets very confused and does not recognize the fabric on Rusty’s clothes because he thinks that it must have been a very large animal to make a pair of pants so big. Keesic’s is wearing clothes that are made of buckskin so Rusty’s clothes are very funny looking to Keesic. He gets even more amused at Michael’s shiny clothes. Keesic wonders what kind of animal Michael could have got shiny leather like that from. When Rusty first speaks to Keesic, Keesic does not understand a word of what Rusty’s is saying because the only language he knows is Odawa First Nation. That is the language of his people and his beloved culture. In conclusion, Keesic is important because he explains to Rusty that he should learn his language and his culture because in the near future Rusty will because the grand chief of the Odawa First Nations. Being the grand chief of is clan is a very big responsibility because he will have to represent his entire culture.

Character Sketch on Keesic
In the play “Toronto at Dreamer’s Rock” there is a character named Keesic, a native boy from the past. Keesic’s main character trait is being confused. For example, when he arrives at Dreamer’s Rock he sees Rusty and roads and factories and can’t understand what has happened. Keesic is also curios. When he feels Rusty’s clothes he thinks it must have taken a big animal to make clothes with just one skin. And when Michael comes, Kessic feels his clothes and thinks it must have taken a very strange skinned animal to make those clothes. Keesic is very wise and spiritual; he knows lots about Dreamer’s Rock and the vision quests that young boys go on when they journey there and he understands how nature works. For instance, he knows that the crows are the messengers of the Creator. Keesic is also a free person; he doesn’t have set rules to follow and he came from a free place, before the white man came and took over his people. Keesic is very proud to be native and have his traditions, he knows himself well and understands his limits. Keesic is an Odawa native boy and is 16 years old. He is dressed in a buckskin breech and comes from about 1590s.

In the play “Toronto at Dreamer’s Rock” Keesic is one of the protagonists in the story and he represents the past. Keesic is very curious because he does not know about all modern things. For example, in the play he says, “What animal dose this come from? Rusty: It’s a Levi. Keesic: It looks like all one skin. This Levi must be a big animal.” he all ways wants to know how it works, for instance in the play he says, ”cement factory? What’s that?” Keesic did not know about cement factory because he is from the past. Keesic is also very religious because and believes in the grate spirit and he also believes in vision quests and eventually finds out what to do in life. He believes that the crow is the messenger of the grate spirit he says this in the play “Keesic: crow?! Did you say you saw a crow? What did it say? Rusty: caw. What else does a crow say? It just screeched a few times when I drank my beer, and then it went away. Why? What does a crow have to do with anything. Keesic: I don’t know. But do you know what a crow is? Rusty: Yeah but you better explain it to Michael anyways. Keesic: they are the messengers of he creator and the other powerful beings. If that crow was talking to you, it must have been for a reason. You should learn to listen, Rusty, it might have been trying to tell you something important.” The third thing is that Keesic is very respectful and tries to help Rusty even though Rusty was always stubborn to him and does not likes him that much. In conclusion, Keesic helps rusty pull himself together.

Today is an O.K. day. But not as much fun as the weekend was in Tagish (a half an hour out of Carcross). I was with Natasha and Rae-Anne. Most of the time we were ski-dooing. I flipped a couple of times because I have a small ski-doo and it is not very stable. Rae-Anne and Natasha kept flipping it also. Well that's pretty much it. No one was hurt so I'll see you again next week...

Hey it’s me Nikki again. I had fun during the holidays since I stayed at my principal’s house while he was on holidays. I had to look after his dogs and cats and house. While I was there I had so much fun throwing snowballs for, well actually, at the dogs. I had friends stay with me. They did some crazy things like they were hanging off the railings and bouncing off the walls occasionally. All four dogs and only one of the three cats scared one of my friends. She claims that the one cat tried to attack her. Yeah right! On Christmas day I was supposed to wakeup at 7 am but the alarm clock had been wrong and I woke up at 5 am instead. Well I’m out of time so I’ll tell you more the next time I write in my blog. Take care, and happy New Year... so ‘till next time.

My Christmas holiday was a lot of fun because I got to snowboard a lot. I love to snowboard. It is my favorite sport. Christmas was a great deal of fun because I got to spend lots of time with my friends. My friend Brandon came up from British Columbia for the Christmas holiday. My friend Terry and I taught Brandon how to snowboard by taking him on the steepest hills we could find. My friend Terry got a new snowboard also. My dad and I fixed my skidoo by putting a shock on and a new light. Just a couple days ago I was skidooing and the light on my skidoo burnt out so we have to fix it yet again. Well I got to go so talk to you all next week. Bye.

Dear Canadian soldier, My name is Michael and I live in Carcross, Yukon. What is it like in Afganistan? Are you in constant fear of an attack or is where you stay safe? I hope you don't have to stay there for long, I don't want any more troops getting hurt. Where did you live before you got shipped out? I used to live in Victoria B.C. before I moved to the Yukon, that was just one year ago. Well that's it, I hope you stay safe.
From, Michael

Dear soldier,
Thank you so much for going to Afghanistan and fighting for Canada. It must be hard leaving your family though. I really appreciate what you are doing for Canada. My name is Heather and I live in Carcross, Yukon. It is snowing here right now and it is very cold. Our town is small and there are barley any people here. Please, please try not to get blown up or shot. Have you ever shot any one? Hope you come back to Canada safe and please, please watch your back.

Dear soldier,
Please give us peace in Afghanistan. My whole class is writing to soldiers around Afghanistan. I am Austin and I am 12 years old. I like to play hockey. I am on a team called Yellow Cab. I have a friend on my team named Mike. I live in Carcross, Y.T. In the Yukon it is very cold in the winter. We are half the size of Alberta with only 30,000 residents and most of those people live in Whitehorse, our capital. Which by the way is where I have hockey practices and games. In Carcross right now it is snowy and the ice is so thick you can drive on it with a vehicle.
P.S. I hope you don’t die and become a veteran some day. I am also proud you would risk your life for us. Please be careful soldier.
Sincerely,
Austin
