Mesopotamia's Achievements

For this report I will be discussing the achievements that Mesopotamia accomplished. I will start from the first city to the first wheel. I hope you enjoy what I have to say in this report and you remember everything that I say because it�s VERY important. Have fun while I take you on adventure back in time. The first big achievement that Mesopotamia made was the first city. The world�s first city was called Sumer which was located in southern Mesopotamia where the twin rivers converged. The rivers names are the Tigris and the Euphrates. The people who lived in that area were called Sumerians. Another important fact is that people refer to Mesopotamia as �the cradle of civilization.� Mesopotamia�s next big achievement was trade. Trade means when some one wants something they have to give something to get it. They started off trading little things like copper for a pair of leather gloves, that would be a trade. After a few years they started trading more and trading bigger things like land or a house for a house. Then after a few years of trading like that they started making little round circles made out of metal called coins/money. That's what people started using to get what they wanted. Mesopotamia's next big achievement was the wheel. The wheel is a thing that they need to transport supplies. The wheel goes on the bottom of the cart and it makes the cart roll. They started off just pulling a flat bottom wood cart. They would have to pull that all the from Mesopotamia to India and it was very hard for them. So they started putting logs under the cart so it could roll faster but they had to get someone to run around the back and get the log that was rolling away and bring it and to the front. Then they put holes in the sled and put the logs in them so they wouldn�t have to run back and to the front again. It just stayed in and rolled faster than it did. Then they put circles where the logs were and the circles were called wheels and that right their was the first carriage. Their next huge achievement was writing. Writing is where you would talk to other people but on a paper. They started using little tokens made out of clay to count how many animals they traded that day. They used that for a few years until they started writing on clay tablets that were wet and they would use a reed as their tool to write on it. You could use this one more, you could write to your friends, or you could keep track of the animals easier. This brings an end to our fantastic travel back in time to see what the Mesopotamians did. So you see that items we used today was used back around the Mesopotamian�s age. I hope you enjoyed my report and you learn a lot of information.

The Mesopotamians

Everyone should be thanking the Mesopotamians, even if they don't know about them. It is because of them that we are so advanced today. they were the people who began establishing communities, and they invented many of the things we take for granted today, such as writing, medicine, and even wheels. Although they may not be the first civilization, the are the most memorable.

The Mesopotamians began their evolutionary process by doing something as simple as deciding to lose their nomadicy, they settled down in a specific spot, ready to live their and stop traveling. But, as they began to live together, food and water supplies in their immediate area diminished, quickly. they needed a solution, and fast. they decided to grow their own food, that way, they would never have to go searching for it. As this proved a success, they began herd their own animals aswell, to reduce hunting.

However, with the farming being so abundant for some families, and lesser for others, the trade systems was invented. Families who had an overwhelming amount of barley were able to trade with families who had lots of meat, and vice versa, so on and so forth. When things began going so wonderfully at home, people figured that it would make more sense to trade with people form other lands, and receive new and foreign items. However, on each trip, people were taking large quantities of trading goods with them, so they needed a better way to carry them then just having them in a cart that was dragged across the ground. One smart Mesopotaimian discovered that putting logs under the cat made the process much easier and quicker. Over time, the edges in the carts carved little niches in the wood. this must have inspired another smart Mesopotaimian to add runners to the bottom of a cart, then fitting the notches on the logs to the runners. Over time this achiement kept advancing until they were cutting holes in the carts threading axles through, and fitting the wheels o the axles. However, with the advancement came an advancement in crime. A new set of laws was inforced, in hopes to lesson the horrendous acts.

But now, with the city becoming so overpopulated, the city was splitting into classes. The people needed one thing under which they could all unite, and so religion became the binding feature. the mesopotamians built their first real building structure, the Ziggurat, and in it was housed the patron God or saint. But, unfortunately, even under the light of religion, people began to become greedy. They started taking things without giving in return. eventually, the ruling king sent his men to invade other lands to steal their goods. This was the first type of warring.

People needed a way to communicate. After discovering that drawing pictures simply would not suffice, well knows scribes decided a way of writing, known as Cuneiform. Cuneiform was the first form of writing. The scribes were well valued in the community. soon, as the city continued to advance greatly, their technology did too. Weapons and tools became a very advanced product path.

The weapons hurt people, and so they needed help. The Mesopotamians quickly saw the need for some sort of medicine, and so they set to work. People were healing, and everything was good in the classes of people in Mesopotamia.

Mesopotamia
This report is about the ancient Mesopotamians the Sumerians. The Sumerians were the first race of Mesopotamians, they were the very start of civilization as we know it.
One of the first invention that the Sumerians built was the temples also called the �Ziggurats�. They were one of the very first built structure which began other buildings such as homes.
Another thing they invented which came a short time after was cuneiform writing which they used to write letters and such. The Sumerians weren�t able to right really letters so they came up with pictures they used pictures for their letters and words.
The Third and one of the greatest invention was the WHEEL yes that is right the wheel the Sumerians invented and wheel to under their carts they would use to carry raw goods and such. They need the wheel for when they traveled in rough terrain which helped the move through it smoothly and safely.
Another invention that came shortly after the wheel was the very first trading system. The mesopotamians needed to trade to survive the trade was formed roughly around 3000 b.c.e , a little while after the had invented the wheel. The Sumerians used their wheel to transport their traded goods.
The Sumerians were pretty cool. They invented quite a bit and were very very smart. My Conclusion is that the Sumerians were pretty awesome and smart yes very smart.

Mesopotamian Contributions to the World

Intro

The Mesopotamians have brought many great achievements to our world, such as City-states, mathematical number system based on 60. Also they achieved the first written language (CUNEIFORM),and the invention of the wheel. These are the few things that I am going to talk about in my report. The mesopotamians have accomplished many things.

First Achievement

Sumerians first created the city-state. A city-state is a place where people settled together in one area. A Sumerian city-state consisted of the city, the surrounding mud brick wall, and the surrounding farmland. Second Achievement

The Second Achievement

The second achievement that the Sumerians had was the first mathematical number system based on the number 60. It involved number different math solutions.

Third achievement

The third contribution was the writing system (cuneiform). It was a writing of different shapes and forms. Cuneiform consists of many different lines and shapes. It is complex and difficult to follow.

Fourth Achievement

A fourth contribution that the Sumerinas did was the wheel. First the Sumerians pushed things on a bunch of log then the would take the back one and put it at the front. Then they cut slots in a board and put logs into them to make it easier to push. Finally they made the wheel. They put and axle between to wheels the pushed the stuff that was on top of it.

Conclusion

The Sumerians have created many useful things that we now use to base our maddens on. The Sumerians were very useful and smart people.

Mesopotamia's Achievements

Mesopotamia was located in Iraq, but it doesn�t exist anymore. It is the world�s first civilization, and it�s people (the Sumerians) developed many useful things that we use everyday; the wheel, a number system, a writing system, irrigation, etc. If it weren�t for the Sumerians we wouldn�t be able to do many of the things that we do everyday. Mesopotamia was developed in 5000 B.C.E.

The Sumerians� first achievement was irrigation. Irrigation made it much easier for the Sumerians to survive because it meant that they were guaranteed clean water to drink and water their plants with. This also meant that they had a more consistent food supply and didn�t have to wander around looking for food.

The Sumerians� second achievement was the writing system (Cuneiform). Cuneiform meant that the Sumerians could keep track of trade and what they had. For example; farmers could keep track their livestock, how much food they had, etc.

The Sumerians� third achievement was the wheel. Using the wheel the Sumerians could haul objects to different places in carts so that they could trade with people far away. The wheel was also used when in war against other City-states.

The Sumerians� fourth achievement was the number system. The number system was made so that they could keep track of how many of something they had, and how many of something they needed to trade to get something else.

In conclusion without the Sumerians we wouldn�t have a lot of the technology we have now (Cars, books, etc.). Thanks to them we can do many things that they couldn�t.

Introduction

Mesopotamian�s have created a ton of things since the starting of civilization. Some of the creations were the wheel, the twelve month calendar, and the sailboat. If you were to look on the world map today, Mesopotamia would be located in Iraq in the middle east.

First Achievement

One of Mesopotamia�s first great achievements was the wheel. It helped them to get supplies around for other places and allowed them to go places. They started out as logs under a box that people towed around and would keep on bringing the logs that come out at the back and brought it to the front.

Second Achievement

Mesopotamia also created the writing system or also known as cuneiform, which they called it when they first created it. If they didn�t create the writing system we would still be speaking caveman language today. They first started out using clay tables and used certain symbols for things, because they couldn�t speak. It has brought human nature along way and has allowed us to use any word in the world.

Third Achievement

Now if Mesopotamia didn�t invent this invention we wouldn�t know what day it was. It is the one and only, twelve month calendar. It allows us to know what day, month, and year it is. It has helped us out in many ways letting us know what day it is for your sport or what day you left to Calgary.

Fourth Achievement

When Mesopotamia created the sailboat they knew that it would change the world forever. It has allowed people all around the world to travel quietly across oceans and lakes. It was also thanks to the invention of the sailboat for all the other boats created around the world like the speed boat, cruise ship, fishing boats, and ferries. All of these boats let us travel across water instead of swimming.

Conclusion

My conclusion is that we should be very thankful for Mesopotamia because they basically created the whole entire world. They have allowed us to know what time it is, know what day, month and year it is and lots of more things that created the world.

Mesopotamia is located in between the Tigris and the Euphrates. It was developed in 5000 B.C It is sometimes known as the cradle of civilization. The meaning is from the greek word mesos meaning middle and potamos meaning river.

The Sumerians first achievement was the Ziggurat. The Ziggurat was a temple like structure used to worship the gods. Followed by that they made things like the wheel and the plow and the water clock. The Sumerians lived by the Ziggurats but not in them.

The Sumerians made the writing system next which they used to keep track of their trading on clay tablets with reeds it was made in 3300 B.C It worked well when they traded large quantities.

Second they used sleds to move things but that was to hard, so they put logs under there sleds so they would move better. But that wasn�t quite cutting it so they invented the wheel. They made i out of wood at first and much later rubber was add onto them.

Mesopotamians made almost the biggest thing that we need and most important, they made medicine. It was used to treat the people who had the flu or people with headaches. After time they figured out how to treat other illnesses by experimenting with there medicines. The Sumerians have made so many things we use today like if they didn't create medicine we would have a much higher death rate. We also write not so much the same way as they did but we wright almost everyday.

Mesopotamia had many great achievements that helped to shape the way are lives are today. The great things we have today like wheel ,writing, and the sailboat are from Mesopotia. As you can see the Sumerians were great people.

The Sumerians first achievement was creating Cuneiform which is a form of writing. It was a very great achievement, it helps everyone. Without Cunieform everyone would be dumb and would not know how to read or write .

Clay tokens came in different shapes, sizes and masses. These represented different objects. For example, a cone shape could have represented a bag of wheat. These tokens were placed inside clay balls that were sealed. If you were sending five goats to someone, then you would put five tokens in the clay ball. When the goat arrived, the person would open the clay ball and count the tokens to make sure the correct number of goats had arrived.

The number of tokens began to be pressed on the outside of the clay balls. Many experts believe that this is how writing on clay tablets began.

The Sumerians made their clothing by using the natural resources that were available to them. Clothing was made from wool or flax which Sumerians could raise and harvest. Flax is a plant with blue flowers. The stems of these plants are used to make the clothing. How thick or how rough the clothing was meant the season in which the clothes would be worn. Like us, heavier clothing would be worn in the winter and lighter clothing would be worn in the summer.

Around the year 2000 B.C., temples began to be built to link heaven and earth. The towers, called ziggurats, were very large, pyramid-shaped structures on top of which the temple was built. The ziggurats were built of mud bricks with 3 to 7 terraced levels.

Well anyway the Sumerians were very very great people. The world would not be the way it was today without the sumerians.
