Mesopotamia's Achievements

Mesopotamia’s Achievements

Mesopotamia is the “cradle of civilization" located between the Euphrates and Tigris rivers. It was made in 5000 B.C. It is the first great civilization. They had invented many things. Mesopotamia doesn’t exist today, but the land is now known as Iraq

Sumarians first achievement was ziggurat. The ziggurat is a temple. In the ziggurat they worshipped gods and goddesses. The Sumerians lived around the ziggurat. They were the first forms of buildings.

Their second achievement was the writing system. It was called cuneiform. They used it to keep tracks of their trades. It started about 3300 B.C. They wrote on clay tablets. Scribes used the writing. The writing had led to today's writing.

The third achievement from the Sumerians was carts and wheels. They used it to carry items to other lands to trade what they brought over there. It took many trials and tribulations to invent but it was well worth it.

After the wheels and carts they had made trade. To the Sumerians trade was very good. Trade was the beginning of the economy. They traded everything like grain, metals, an food.

Mesopotamia is where everything today began. Without Mesopotamia we wouldn’t have a way to write, a wheel, a clock operated by water, we would have to walk to school and work, the axle, magazines, television, Taco Bell, and practically everything else.

Stuck On a Desert Island

THINK FOR YOURSELF

1. TO GET A FRUIT (BANANA) FROM A TREE I WOULD CREATE A SPEAR. THE LENGTH AND HANDLE WILL BE FROM BAMBOO. THE SPEAR THING WILL BE A SHARP ROCK THAT I HAVE SHARPENED WITH A VERY SHARP ROCK. IT WILL BE HELD TOGETHER WITH SEAWEED FROM THE OCEAN.

2. I CAN MAKE A BOWL FROM A COCONUT TO CARRY WATER. I WOULD CLIMB THE COCONUT TREE AND PULL DOWN THE COCONUT. THE FRESH WATER WILL BE FROM A STREAM.

3. LONG TERM FOOD WILL BE LIKE LOBSTER, MY CLOTHES WILL BE FROM HUGE LEAVES, MANY IT SHALL BE. SHORT TERM NEEDS IS AN EMERGENCY KIT THAT I SHALL FIND ON THE BEACH FROM CRASHED PLANE, AND IT FLOATED NEAR MY HUT. THESE TOOLS I NEED OR ELSE I SHALL BE COLD, HUNGRY, OR HURTING WHICH I WOULDN’T WANT TO BE.

Homo Erectus

The name of the species that I am doing is Homo Erectus. They lived in about 1.8 million to 300 000 years ago. They looked more like us than earlier humans did. They were tall like us, but stronger. They had a bigger brain than Homo Habilis but they could not talk. They used complex tools including hand ax and tools for butchering. The skills they developed is to hunt. They had a generalized diet, including meat. Their environment was variable, from warm to cold temperature. Females were 160 cm, and the males were 180 cm.
