These are the support files for Technology Assisted Learning (TAL) sponsored class writing blogs. All TAL blogs must comply with the YESNet Web Publishing Policy.

What is a blog?

Class Writing Blogs are collaborative web pages. Students, as contributing editors, can post their writing into an online workshop environment. Here it can be collaboratively discussed and edited by all other editors. The teacher, as managing editor, then releases the finished writing to the website where it will appear both on the Home page and in the student's personal e-portfolio page. Interested members of the public (parents, etc..) are invited to join the site and give feedback on the student's published work by using the Discuss link at the end of each story.

Why blog with students?

TAL support blogging for two reasons:

1. Structured writing blogs give Yukon students the opportunity to create meaningful content for a wider audiences than just their teacher, families and peers. In the process, they can participate in a collaborative writing environment where they will learn to negotiate meaning and knowledge in real and relevant ways. All of these skills will be valuable to them once they graduate into our connected world.

2. Blogs also give Yukon teachers a forum to discuss internet and personal safety issues, as well as giving them an opportunity to model appropriate social networking skills.

We invite public participation in our blogs. Please note that all comments posted are automatically emailed to the sponsoring teacher and site administrator. Student members are not using real email accounts so any mail sent to them is routed to the teacher’s email account. Members who abuse their privileges by posting inappropriate comments will be banned. Please remember you are writing for a K-12 audience.
