Ramesh Ferris will be hand-cycling across Canada during the summer of 2008 in order to raise public awareness of the need for world-wide polio eradication, and to raise money in support of this objective.
He departs Victoria on April 12, 2008, the 53rd anniversary of Dr. Jonas Salk's announcement of a polio vaccine, and plans to arrive at Cape Spear Newfoundland on September 30, after cycling over 7200 kilometres.
At this site you can view a number of maps, at different levels of detail, showing the route from coast to coast.
Those with high speed internet should access the high resolution maps folder. We have created index maps that show the route across western and eastern Canada. When you click on the link to one of the index maps, a satellite image opens, showing the route, and outlines of the more detailed maps. If you hover your mouse over each numbered section (each detailed map), you will have the option of opening an Adobe Acrobat file with the detailed 1:250,000 scale map for each section.

You can open regional maps (pdf files) and see his route.
Also indicated is the planned position at the end of each travel day. Dates are indicated in code. For example "5-13" is May 13. Ramesh plans to have a weekly routine: cycling for two days, resting two, cycling two days, resting one. Thus, the aqua-coloured waypoints indicate where he will rest for two days, and the green ones, where he will rest for one. Of course, actual progress will probably vary somewhat to this schedule.
Those with low speed internet can access the low resolution map folder to see lower resolution maps of the trip.
