About Our Stories

Welcome to Mr. Newnham’s Grade Three online student story library! Students have been practicing writing strategies and building their skills to become master authors by the end of the school year. Adding a new story to the site

1. Create the recording with Garage Band.

2. When finished send it into iTunes with File menu -> Export to iTunes.

3. Time to compress the file - select it in the iTunes window and use Advanced menu -> Convert selection to ACC. This will create a smaller web-friendlier version (the drum loop I tested with went from 2MB to 180 KB).

4. Locate the file for uploading with File menu -> Show in Finder. Either option-drag a copy to the desktop, or drag it into your server folder. make sure your dragging the smaller MP3 version (usually end with .m4a - NOT .aif)

5. Log in to the site. Go to Editors only: -> Files

6. Use the 'Upload a new file' link. Give it a short title and then use 'Browse...' to aim it at the the exported story. Then use 'Post New File' button.

7. The uploaded file will show up at the top of the list. You will need to copy its URL for the next step. To do this either drag across the entire URL starting at the http: and the use Copy, or Ctrl-click on the URL and use Copy link location.. in the pop-up.

8. Use the 'Add a story' link in the navigation area. This will create a new blog post. Put in a title. Click in the URL: field and paste the location of the students reading that you copied in step 7. This will aim the title at the audio file.

You can also embed the audio in the story area. First you type in the word(s) you want to link it to, select them, and then select the link: tool  in the text editing box  and paste the file URL into field

9. Click 'Create News Item' when done. This will save the story in the pending news area (Editors only: -> News)

10. Click 'Post to Home Page' to make it public.
