8:40PM-Mr. Dunham
To
construct the site, Mr. Dunham set up a program called Manila with a
computer at the Yukon College. There is a second computer that
stores the pictures and vidieos so that we can see then faster.
The Excelsior site can be seen by any where in the world that has
internet. People in 75 different countries have seen the Yukon
College server.
8:25PM-10 Hour Check Point
I talked to some of the mission control members to see how they have been feeling through out the whole 10 hours.
Kelly: I am anxious to see the astronauts come home. My feet are very tired.
Caleb: Very tired.
Jessica: I have been feeling fine since the start of the mission. I am feeling very happy right now.
Me (Katelyn): I have been feeling really really excited and
happy. My feet have been sore almost the whole time but it's
worth it! I'm hoping that the people in the shuttle will land
successfully.
7:19PM-Talking with the Parents
I went around talking to some parents asking them what they
thought about having their children in the mission. Heather says she
thinks it is an awesome assignment. She thinks that her daughter
will learn how to communicate better with others and how to problem solve. Heather hopes that
other kids will experience the space mission. Merle thinks that
the mission is a great experience for kids. She thinks that her
daughter will learn about space, team building, problem solving, and
communication. She thinks
that it is a really good for building self confidence. She says
that it is also looks like fun. Merle thinks that it would be a
great opportunity for next years kids.
7:05PM-Dinner Feedback
I interviewed some people and asked them what they thought of the dinner here in mission control.
Breyden said: It was very good.
My favorite part was the ceasar salad. I thank the chef whoever
it was, for an excellent meal.
Kiana said: It was pretty good. I liked the raisin bread. I
would like to thank the parents who made it. It was very good.
Commander Michayluk said: It was fantastic! Anyday you can have ceasar salad, spegetti and garlic toast, it's a good day.
Jessica said: I think the dinner was really good and anyday you can have ceasar salad, it's the best.
6:10PM-Powerbar Trouble
The microwave is having problems. The powerbar is not
working properly and it is affecting the microwave. They tried
many different outlets and Commander Michayluk looked at the fuses
around the school. The other outlets wouldn't work so they moved
the microwave near the computer and pluged it into an outlet that also
had the computer connected to it. Now the microwave is working fine.
5:15-Cooking something up
The parents are cooking the dinner. The mission control
team are suffering from the delicious smell*smells the
air*Ahhhhhhhhhhh... They are making spegitti, cesar salad, and garlic
bread. The mission control will be having a mystrey dessert. The
shuttle team are having ichiban and microwaveable pizza's. (Heehee
mission control get an awesome dinner!)
5:12PM-The Crew's Parents words
I have talked to some of the parents to see what they
think of their kids being in the space shuttle. Teagan's mom,
Karen was very proud. She was also a little jealous. She
wishes she could be in grade six again just to do this mission.
She thinks that Teagan will learn the importance of work and how to get
along with people for a long period of time. Karen is worried
that she won't drink enough water and get a headache. Julia's
mom, Janine was very proud of her daughter being the Commander of the
shuttle. She thinks Julia will learn how to be work within a team
and how it would actually feel to be an astronaut in space.
Janine is worried that Julia will be too fatigued to continue her
mission.
4:00PM-Commander Michayluk and Commander Good
Commander Michayluk is very excited about this mission. He seems
to be having a good time. He looks a little bit stressed because
there is so many questions. He is doing a very good job keeping
everything in track. He has done a very good job answering the
questions that everyone is asking. Commander Good is working very
hard helping everyone. He has been working with the communations
team very much, helping them get the pictures and vidieos on the web
page. He really knows what he is doing. He excels at
working with computers. He edits everyone's articles.
Commander Michaylrk and Commander Good are excellent Commanders.
This article is about three of our astronauts.
The Payload Specialist # 1 and 2 and the Mission Specialist # 2.
First off I will talk about the Payload Specialist # 2. His name
is Michael 1. He is really Excited about this whole thing because
he can’t wait to be in weightlessness ( not really were just saying
that to make it sound real). He is also nervous because if he
does something incorrectly then the whole shuttle might have to come
down. Michael is interested in learning more about space.
He is 60 % sure that he will die.
Next I will talk about the Payload Specialist #
1. Her name is Teagan. she is excited about this mission
because she can’t wait until the launch or the 12 hours of being in
space. Teagan is also nervous because if she does something wrong
or breaks something then again the whole shuttle might come down.
She would like to learn the samething as Micheal 1. She is also
20% sure she will die.
Last but not least I will talk about Tessa, the
Mission Specialist #2. Tessa is feeling excited because she
is going into space. She is feeling nervous for the same
reason. She is 10% sure that she is going to die. Tessa
would also like to learn more about space. Thank you for reading
my article.

2:35PM-Communations Team
Kelly, Olive, Savannah and Travis are
working hard and keeping track of the vidieo and picture journal. Kelly
and Olive are putting pictures on the web page. So far they have 30
pictures on the page! Savannah and Travis is doing very well. So far
they has 7 vidieos. They are doing very well on the updates.
12:14 am-Medical team
Mikey is the cardiologist and his job is to communicate with Shayna who
is in the shuttle. She tells the blood pressure of the astronauts to
Mikey who puts the information on the computer.
Jasmine is the flight surgeon and she communicates with Shayna who tells Jasmine the heart rate of all the astronauts.
Jessica is the physiologist and she checks if the team gets enough food, water, exercise and rest.
10:59AM - Medical Team
The medical team went with physiotherapist Michelle Rigoni and they
were taught how to take a pulse reading. They took each other’s heart
rate. The medical officer (Shayna) found it hard to find everybody’s
pulse . She also used a heart rate monitor to measure a pulse. Once the
monitor is on, you wear a special watch and it displays your heart
rate. Shayna is nervous about getting all her medical jobs done on
time. She is excited about being in the shuttle.Shayna hopes to learn
to take blood pressure faster and better.
The cardiologist
(Mikey) worried about writing something wrong. He is also excited about
the launch. Mikey wants to learn more about his job.
The flight
surgeon (Jazmin) is nervous about the black out when we lose contact
with Excelsior as it returns to Earth (through the Earth’s atmosphere).
Even though she is nervous, she is also just happy taking part in the
entire missolor
The physiologist (Jessica) is not nervous which
can come in handy, because she can keep people calm. She is excited
about the entire day. She wants to learn more about the heart and
medical information.
The medical team is ready and they know what to do!
10:54AM- Chief Correspondent
The job Chief Correspondent for the Excelsior mission has been a very
interesting job. The job duties began in early January. I first
compiled a list of people to invite to the mission. After that was
completed, I redrafted and sent out letters of invitation. I had to
contact the people I mailed by phone to see that they received the
letter and if they would attend. Before I sent letters to the local
media, I had to have special permission from the department of
education to invite them. On the morning of the launch, I will set up
refreshments and greet everyone who attends. At the press conference I
will present a speech about the mission. While the astronauts are
orbiting the Earth, I will be making sure that the rest of the Public
Affairs team is doing the right job. If any of the guests have
questions, I will be answering them. During the take off, I will be
informing the public about what is happening to the shuttle. After the
mission I will give shuttle tours to the younger students.
10:35 am - Weather team interviews
Meteorologist, Arial predicts that the weather in space will be much
better than it is now. She is very nervous about her count down because
she might be some seconds off. She is excited because it is her first
time working around a space shuttle. She hopes to learn what it would
be like to go into space.
Meteorologist, Emily predicts that
the weather will be great. She is nervous about messing up in her job.
She is excited about having a very important job. She hopes to learn
more about space.
Meteorologist, Daniel predicts that there is going to be a meteor
shower. He is worried about getting the weather wrong. He is excited
about about being able to see in the space ship before it takes off. He
hopes to learn what he would do if he were in space for twelve hours.
