Mission Updates
9:25pm
This is the last time you will hear from me until the shuttle is back
home. everyone is in there suits and ready for landing i can't wait any
longer because I really want to see my friends.
8:51pm
Excelsior is on thier 8th and final orbit. The crew has started
experiment #9 (sense of hearing). Our astronauts will be giving their
final medical reading.
7:57pm
They are over 6 and a half orbits and on top of central Asia
they are on experiment #7. We are excited because we only have 2 hours left we can' t wait for our friends to come back
7:09pm
The shuttle is on it's 6th orbit. The crew is still eating. There are
only 3 hours left we may not be ready but I'm sure we well do fine.
6:37pm
Excelsior has discovered another spider.they have done 5 orbits we had
another problem if you can belive it. the power outlet went wacko
but once again the crew has fixed it.
5:41 PM
Mission Control is eating dinner. There is always small crew in contact with the shuttle.
5:11pm
Almost 5 orbits and 7 hours we are preparing for dinner the nordic track broke again but this time they can still use it.
4:23PM-Back on track
The Nordic Track is broken. What will the team do? We drew a diagram to help to them fix it. Did it help?

The crew has fixed the Nordic Track! They say it was kind of
hard, but it was interesting. The Nordic is ready to be used
thanks to the smart minds of the crew.
4:08PM-Jack Hulland, we have a problem
The Nordic Track has broken down. The spring has
broken. Since the spring is broken, the wheel has no tension, and
that doesn't give the astronauts any exercise. Commander
Michayluk is showing a picture and telling the Shuttle Commander and
the rest of the crew how to fix it. The Shuttle Commander says it
is confusing to read off of the sheet because you can't physically
touch it to find where you are. We hope that they will soon fix
it.
3:58
It has been 6 hours, 4 orbits and Excelsior is halfway through the mission everyone is still awake and still excited.
2:50pm PST
Excelsior is just under 3 orbits. They are over North America. We may
have 7 hours to go but we are still excited. The astronauts have
discovered a spider in their bathroom.
1:43 pm
The shuttle is over 2 orbits. It takes 90min per orbit. The
shuttle was over Europe the last time we checked. It hasn't been
90min but it is 1:43pm PST. See you in 90min.
12:56 AM
Here is our mission update. Excelsior is just shy of two orbits
they are over the Pacific Ocean. it is 1:00 pm PST we have been doing
this for 3 hours but we still have a long way to go.
10:40 AM
At 10:15 Excelsior blasted off with a successful launch. They have completed one orbit and a half.
They are working on their first experiment (Sense of Touch)
Tessa and Thomas are exercising now and Teagan & Julia just finished.
11:06AM
- The Morning The morning was very busy. We got at the school at
8:00AM. The students got into their suits and put on their name tags.
The parents came as well as the hounored guests. Astronaut Petersen and
I started to give tours of the shuttle. At the press conference,
Commander Michayluk, Mr. Good, Mr. Tredger, Ms. Fedoriak and I gave
speeches. That went very well. During the launch, Miss Jordan was
starting to feel better. Everyone said their parts and they are now
riding in the orbit.
10:25am We Have Lift Off
We have sent our astronauts to orbit the earth. Many
people in mission control are verry excited and busy. Astronaut
Jordan was not feeling that well when the shuttle went to space so we
are keeping an eye on her. I will post in a few minutes so keep
checking!
Before the Mission
Since early October the class has been excited and working very hard on
the project and space application. In the application there was a
self
portrait, a space persuassive essay, a classification, a soup
experiment, a cover letter telling about why we would be a good
astronaut, and a physical training sheet. For 10 days we
did push ups, sits ups, and 10 minutes of running or other
exercise. We
started out with 3 push ups, 25 sit ups, 10 minutes of exercise, and
every 2 days, the numbers increased. We have done research
projects on
planets and completed time lines on important events in space. Everyone
is
very excited about the launch and we are relieved and proud about what
we have accomplished. Commander Michayluk and Commander Tillet
are very
excited, relieved and a little stressed. They have taught the
students a lot about space, hard work and team work. We are all
sure that the mission will be a great success!
