The
Great Pyramid of Egypt is built mostly of limestone some weighing as
much as 50 tonnes! Most of the blocks weighed 2.5 tonnes. The stones
were pulled to Giza on wooden sledges. It’s though that over 4000
skilled masons worked on the pyramid and possibly 100,000 farmers
joined them during the inundation period. (Annual flooding) The workers
were paid with food and drink rations. Approximately 100,000 bundles of
onions and 200,000 loaves of bread were supplied daily to feed the
workers three times a day. The limestone was brought from the quarries
at Tura. The limestone was ferried over across the Nile River from the
East Bank. The Granite was shipped from quarries at Aswan, some 800
kilometers away. The Pyramid has an angle just short of 52
degrees. Many people think the stones were just simply slid up on
ramps and then flipped up in place. Some people think the stones were
lifted into place by immense machines, personally I think it was lifted
and pushed into place, or for the taller parts, simply were slid
up a ramp then lifted or flipped them into place .
The number of stones to build the great pyramid is 603,728!
