In this class we are going to explore how the media affects self determination of First Nations peoples.
What role does the media have and what are some examples of media influence?
Task: /25
1. Create a power point presentation or presentation document to illustrate how the media influences current perception on First Nations people.
It must include: a. an opening page(defining what you are looking at) /5
b. No less than 10 pictures ( all must have a description related to the picture) /10
c. A written summary of what you discovered(250 words) /5

This
assignment is designed to examine the impacts Europeans had/have on
Yukon First Nations. Choose from one of the topics below.
1.
The effects and ramifications of the Hudson Bay Company on the North.
Look at how many trading posts, the locations of the posts, the number
of Europeans living there and their actions within and toward the First
Nations communities in the Yukon

The role of Missionaries in the North and the effects and implications
of Missionary work in Yukon. Look at the location of Missionaries, the
people who were there and the types of effects the Missionaries had on
the First Nations. Look at both short and longer-term effects.

The part gold miners had in changing the Yukon landscape and the
effects on First Nations groups. Examine the personalities and the
reactions to having gold miners in the Dawson area. As well, examine
the long-term effects on the First Nation of gold mining in The Dawson
region.

Examine in detail the effects of technology on the First Nations at the
time of contact. Concrete examples should be included and a detailed
description of which pieces of technology had the greatest impact must
be included.

Requirement/Assignments options:
1. Write a 750-1250 word essay on the topic. Include labeled pictures and diagrams and a bibliography.
2.
Prepare a 15- 20 minute presentation on the topic. Include hand out or
other visual aids to compliment eh presentation. (This could be a class
lecture or a power point presentation or a solid guided web exploration)
3. Other suggestions will be taken by the instructor for delivery of the assignment.
