Theme: Marsville
Marsville is now in full-swing! Over the next month your child will continue learning about extreme environments, will design either a communication or waste management system (two of the life-support systems needed for our colony on Mars), and will create a basic governmental system. Link-up day is on April 20th.
PGL Dictée: As you know, last month we wrote not one but two PGL dictées. The PGL dictée is a North America-wide dictation of a text not previously seen by the students. They are given a list of the more complex words to study beforehand and are expected to apply grammar rules previously learned. Your children aced the Grade 3 text and attained a low average on the Grade 4 text. These are GREAT results! This means that your child has mastered 4-5 years worth of French Immersion in 5 months. Please congratulate them!
Math: I am aware that there are concerns that your child will not cover the Grade 6 Math curriculum this year. Please do not panic! We may not cover the entire textbook, but we will cover the whole curriculum. I am leaving the Probability chapter for last, but we have already delved into the concept and will continue to do so with games (ex. Moufette). In addition, it is our turn for Math Challenge with M. Berrel, so they will have a supplemental half-hour period of math in English once a week.
Sleepover: The Sleepover is finally here! We will have a night full of mystery and fun this Friday, March 16th, followed by a green crêpe breakfast. I have two parent volunteers already signed up, but more are always welcome. Supervision duties are minimal, so expect to socialise with the other adults or join in on the games. Our menu will be finalized tomorrow, and each student will be responsible for either bringing a dish or ingredients. I’ve also asked for mystery-related games and books. Warning: it will be a late night.
Dates to Remember: March 19th: Hot Dog Day March 26th: Swimming from 12:45-2:00pm March 29th: Spring Music Concert "Legend of the Great Bear" at 7pm March ? : Class production of L'heureuse Rencontre at 7:30pm * There is no House Colour Day this month due to Spring Break.
