The only summer sports we have her are soccer, soft ball(baseball) and
my favorite out of them all is cross-country running! I’m really good
at it to we have a race every Friday in the month of My. Last
Friday we had a race in Carmacks it was a two hour drive there and a
two hour drive back. On the drive there we saw a elk on the top
of a little mountain when we stopped for a little break because
the bus was really full of people we had another school on the bus with
us. And on the way back I saw about five or six swans in a little creek
and three beaver dams! It wa a really pretty ride up but as I said
before it was a long drive! ( The up side I missed a whole day of
school but my teacher had a fun day with all the kids that didn’t go!)
But I got 1st place in my category and it was 3k! I have another
race at Golden horn today it’s 3k to! Here in the yukon if you
get a goal on your outdoor soccer team your name gets in the paper in
the sports section it’s really cool! Another thing i do in the
summer is my paper route I have 14 houses to go to! I like having
a paper route for two reasons it’s fun and you can make lots of money
when you collect! another thing i like doing in the summer is
going to the lakes around town and go swimming my favorite swim spot is
long lake it’s really deep but so refreshing in the hot summer!
Sometimes with my friend emily will go there with her dad and fish last
year her dad almost got one but we weren’t even close!

When I grow up I want to have my own salon, and make wedding
dresses. Also I want to be a hair stylist. My friend
Michelle was going to go to hair styling school, but it ended up she
didn’t go. I have this little drawing pad, and I have drawn many
types of different clothing. Like T-shirts, pants, skirts and
dresses. When my mom saw them and said that I am a
true cloths designer. I also have another little pad, but I made
this one last year in class. I draw wedding dresses in that
one. The thing about the one I made is, it is better because it
has the prices that I want the dresses to be. So that is what I
want to be when I grow up.
When I grow up I want to adopt a little girl from China, because I
think it would be a grate experience, and it is giving a home and a
loving family to someone who doesn’t have any of that. I wish I
could name her, but they come with names. If I could name her I
would name her Zoe. I was watching TV once and I saw this
family and they had adopted a little girl from China and they
named her Zoe. She was the cutest little girl I had ever
seen. and so I want to name my little girl Zoe.
When I grow up I want to travel the world. Because my parents
can’t afford it, so if I get a good enough job I can afford it. I
have always wanted to go to paris, hawaii, Australia,Europe and
many more places. That is what I want to do when I grow
up.... at least that is a bit of what I want to do.

Wild animals of the Yukon
In the Yukon there are many different species of animals, like Mooses,
Bears, Deer, Caribou and much more. A few months ago are class
did a research on animals of the Yukon, and I chose to do the Arctic
Fox. What I thought was coolest fact is how the Arctic Foxes are
white in the winter and in spine they turn brown, and stay that way for
the rest of the summer. I also know some information on Squirrels
because there is tons of them down at my cabin, and just before winter
they gather hundreds of pine cones; it makes a big mess. One of my best
friends Danica did her research on the Red Fox and she said that there
are 3 different tips of Red Foxes. Julia one of other good
friends knows allot about Ravens and she told me that that the Raven is
bigger than the Crow. Another one of my friends named Julianna
did her research on Lemming and said that in movies Lemming would jump
off cliffs, but in real life they really don’t. Olivia another
good friend of mine did the Coyote she said that Coyote eats cats and
tries to eat dogs. One of my other good friends named Sonali did
her research on the Black bear she told me that the coolest fact about
the Black bear is that they eat allot of food and one of there favorite
foods is the Grizzly bear. Samantha did the Lynx she said that
they can run in one meter deep of snow, and when their paw is spread
out all the way it is 14 inches long. Nadia did one of every
bodies favorites the Moose. She said the coolest fact about the
Moose is the Rut season, that means the males throat gets swollen and
he becomes very aggressive. He will find a female and protect her
very well. Sometimes, the male will have groups of 10 females!
One of my other friends Emily did the Grizzly bear she thinks the
coolest fact is how the Grizzlies are the biggest bears in the
world. Katilin did the porcupine she told me that their are over
300 quills on it. Adrienne did her research on the Mountain Goat,
and she said that the coolest fact is how they can see a mile away from
them.
If you come to the Yukon you might see more animals than I listed above, but you’ll at least see one.

Did you know that music is the universal language of the
world? Probably almost everybody on our planet has heard at least
some kind of music even if it is only a couple of notes. There
are hundreds and hundreds of different styles of music. Each
composer has a different way to write his or her music. Even
if many composers write in the same style no piece of music is exactly
the same. Pretty much every piece tells a story, sometimes with words,
sometimes without. A lot of Classical and Romantic composers
wrote their music based on an event that had happened to them. In
this case the musician who plays the piece must make the audience hear
the feelings that the composer meant for it to have.
When a
composer writes a piece there must be one more thing to complete the
music...Musicians! There are many musicians in this world, some
who dedicate their life to music, others who play for the fun of it,
and more who play professionally. Music is fun to play but don’t
be mistaken, it is a challenge. Music is not just one thing;
music is like another world. You could consider the highest pitch
and quietest birdcall music and then you could consider a really hard
hit on the lowest and loudest bass drum music as well.
There are
thousands of instruments in the world and it is really amazing that all
these instruments fit into 4 families: percussion, brass, woodwinds,
and strings. You can imagine how many are in each family!
In case you didn’t know, percussion instruments must be hit to
make the instrument sound. Brass instruments you must blow into a
mouthpiece to make the instruments sound. Woodwind instruments sound is
created by someone blowing on something called a reed, and string
intruments sound by vibrating the strings.
Any questions? Write me on Discuss.

Nature
The earth is just a place where living things live.
When someone dies a new baby is born.
Running in the fields as the flowers bloom as you can see Winter is finally turning into Spring. The prettiest time of year up here in Whitehorse is Summer time because the grass is green, the leaves are on the trees as the sun is up all day and night
Winter time is also a pretty time of year, everything is white and some times you can here the wolf's hawl as the wind goes by as the caribou dance and sing all night long!
Nature is an inportant thing of life, why, without trees humans
would not be here right now and without animals life would be very boring and that's why
we showd help the environment so in a
billon years the Earth can still be a beautifull place.

Here in the Yukon there are many birds, we have a whole bunch of birds
in the Summer and quite a lot in the Winter. In the Winter we have the
Snowy Owl, Grouse, Bald Eagle, Chikadee, Raven, Ptarmigan and much more.
In the Yukon there is a bird that is called the Raven it is the bird
that represents the Yukon. The Raven is black and loves to eat
garbage so when you are here in the Yukon you should never leave
your garbage out.
Another garbage eating bird we have up her in the Yukon is the Seagull. The Seagull is usually white or grey.
One bird up here loved by many is the Eagle. There are two types of
Eagles up here, the Bold Eagle and the Golden Eagle. You can usually
find an Eagle perched up on a tree.
One of my favorite birds up here is the Red Breasted Robin. It is grey and its breast is red. It is quite a beautiful bird.
There is a bird called the Swan. It is truly a beautiful bird, it
is a beautiful white and has a beautiful long neck. There are two types
of Swans the Trumpeter Swan, it makes a trompet kind of sound, and the Tundra
Swan. Here in Whitehorse we have a place called Swan Haven, you can see
beautiful Swans there during their Spring migration.
We have some Humming birds up here. They can really startle you
if they go too close to your ear. The rufus hummingbird is the one that
migrates to the Yukon.
Here we have a bird called the Grouse, lots of people like to hunt it
in the Fall and Winter time. The grouse is quite small so you do not get too much
meat out of it.
So if you want to visit the Yukon I can promise you if you came up here
in the summer I promise you will see at least one bird most likely
more, and even if you came up here in the winter you will stil probably
see at least one bird. So came up to the yukon and see all the cool
birds.

Whitehorse, Yukon
Whitehorse is a City of
many different things like it’s a great place for hunting and fishing.
Those aren’t all the great things because Whitehorse is surrounded by
lakes that are great for kayaking, canoeing and swimming. If you like
scuba diving you can go scuba diving in the lakes because most of them
are around thirty meters at the deepest parts and those are the small
ones! If you like hiking and mountain biking you could go in any
direction and find good trails all around. (Which is obvious!)
I must admit that finding a really nice house is
hard unless you really like spending. Riverdale is probably one of the
good places to buy because you are close to schools, the hospital, the center
of town, and most of all the trails.
One of the problems of Whitehorse is that when it
gets to be cold some people leave and it gets to be a bit of a
drag because you won’t have any friends because they are going on holidays to warmer
climates.
The weather of spring around now is quite good
except there is so much mud around and people are getting wet feet because
they’re getting wet when they walk on grass because the grass is soaked
from the snow that has melted. One attraction that will be happening is the
Canada Winter Games which are coming here in the winter of 2007.
Schooling here is interesting because there are only
two schools that I know of that are French which are my school
Whitehorse Elementary and Emilie Tremblay which is a Francophone school
as I hear. If you want to finish a masters degree or become a doctor or
something that you need a lot of schooling this isn’t a very good place.
One very fun activity of the summer is renting a
couple kayaks and kayaking down Miles Canyon when it isn’t too rough
like it was a year or two ago. A good family activity is maybe renting
a canoe and going down anyone of the rivers as long as it’s not too
rough and crazy. The main stores here are I’d say the Super store and
Super A for stuff like food.
I think everyone should stop hunting for stuff like
bears, moose elk and caribou because there are only about 165,000
tundra caribou left in Yukon
(That may sound like a lot but caribou are dying from all sorts of
things like hunters which is obvious and wierd diseases.) There are not
nearly as many woodland caribou left because they live closer to all
our pollution so there’s only about 60,000 lef. That is two caribou a
person in Yukon but most hunters kill more then two a year and meat
stores always have caribou sausage.

When I grow up...
When I grow up I want to be a zookeeper at either a Reptile, Amphibian
zoo
be cause I really like animals but my favorite types are Reptiles and
amphibians. I would be happy to work at just a zoo but I would
have to
be at least in charge of one reptile or amphibian if not I would
probably want to work with... ... marine animals! One other thing
I just thought of that I would like to be is a Biologist with
marine animals our ... ... Platypuses they are one of the coolest
animals
in the world I think! One of my Best friends, Kaitlin wants to be
a
Detective, or an Elephant trainer, but I think she should be a
comedienne
because she's really funny! Another one of my best friends
Adrienne wants to be an artist and an author. She writes really
good stories and she is really good at drawing too! Another one
of
my best friends Samantha wants to be a veterinarian and a super star
hockey player! Samantha is really good in hockey and she’s really good
with animals too! My other friend Nadia wants to be a
teacher and a world class musician she’s really good, I call her the
mini girl Mozart! And she’s really, really, really smart to and
if
I do say so myself when she's a teacher she's going to be a really good
one! Sonali, another one of my friends wants to be either a
lawyer or a dentist. I think she would make a good dentist, child
dentist because if she was going to pull one of a child's tooth I’m
pretty sure that she would be able to either make them laugh to
stay calm or calm them down by talking quietly. I also think
Sonail would make a lawyer because in class if we have a problem
she’ll find out who should get in trouble! One of my other
friends Danica wants to be a Fashion designers. I think she would
be a really good one because she has the best sense of style!
Julia wants to be a lawyer too I think she would be really good at it
too! Another one of my friends is Madison she wants to be a
Doctor and I think she would make a really good child Doctor because
she’s really kind and nice, I can just hear it now “” Calling Dr.
Madison to emergency””!! Olivia wants to be a Doctor or a
Computer Engineer I think those are two very good jobs for
Olivia!
Emily wants to be a hair stylist and have her own salon; she’s really good at doing hair and at giving manicures!

This year, for my class's end of the year trip, we get to go to Marsh
Lake! I'm pretty sure we get to pick who we sleep with ( I hope
we do because I really don't want to have to sleep with someone I don't
know too well!) but I'm almost positive we get to pick. I'm
sure I'm going to sleep with Adrienne but I don't know yet if anyone
else is going to. If we do decide to I'm going to ask Adrienne if
Julia can sleep with us! Our class is going to be there the
12,13 and 14 and the next day (the 15) we get out of
school! Here in Whitehorse we get out I think it’s 2 or 3 weeks
before some schools in Winnipeg and Toronto. But we also start
school 2 weeks before them ; we have to start school in August, August
24 or 25 to be exact! But back to camping it’s going to be so
awesome ! A different grade 5/4 class got to sleep over in the
school last friday I can’t decide witch one would be more fun;
I'm
leaning to camping at Marsh Lake, but when you get to sleep over at the
school you can go anywhere you want in the school and not get in
trouble!

Vancouver
Last year I went to Vancouver it was very lush and it
rained a lot. I also went to the ocean there, it was very
beautiful and there were lots of starfish as well seals.
Vancouver has meny malls, almost all of them have escalators and they
all have food areas where you can find restaurants like A&W,
Macdonalds and lots more. I also went to the PNE, it is a huge
fun
park and it has lots of great rides. I went there on Halloween
and there where lots of haunted houses, my favorite was the Asylum of
Tare because you had to run through a long tunnel and it was
pitch
black and people would jump out and scare you half to
death. There were also many other rides and stores.

Less is known about Yukon plants than is known about the
birds. And very little is known about the birds.
People used to and still say that there are no poisonous plants in the
Yukon, but that’s just a myth. There are some very interesting plants in
the Yukon; like the crocus, the buttercup, the spruce tree, the birch
tree and lots more. My favorite is the cranberry because it
tastes and looks good. In the Yukon we also have dandelions, did
you know that you can use dandelion leaves for salad and you can use
the milk to cure a cold, but I forgot what it was, I think it was a sore
throat or something like that.
Did you know tha the First Nation people used I think birch tree sap to chew on as gum and medication, they also used the
bark to make a tea that would cure a disease or cold.
Most plants die in winter and grow back in spring but in
the Yukon some of the plants stay alive all year round, isn’t that
amazing?
The crocus, this plant, I believe, only grows in the
northern hemisphere. It is a purple plant, it is also one of my
favorites because it’s poisonous and its beauty that comes for a short
time in the spring. It also grabs my attention because of its
beautiful yellow center which usually smells a little bit like damp
moss.
A very interesting plant is the classic spruce tree, which has
been used for Christmas since the beginning of time. It has a
beautiful smell that fills the woods every year, with the smell of new
life.

Lots of people in my class have to get braces, one of my
friends already has braces, but she is probably getting them off in
June. I have to get braces on June 2nd, I hope it does not hurt to get
them on, my friend says it does not, so I guess I will have to trust
her. She says it hurts a bit a few days after you get them though. I
am kind of anxious to get braces and kind of not.
When you get
braces they give you a list of foods you cannot eat, that is one thing
that is bad about braces. These are some things you cannot
eat: popcorn, sticky candy, caramel, hard crust and much more.
After you
get braces they also give you a special tooth brush , water bottle, wax
and some other things.
When you are using the special brush you have to
stick it under your braces and then brush, I think it would take
quite a long time. After you get your braces off you have to wear a
retainer to keep your teeth in place, but after a while you do not.
When
you get braces you usually get to pick the colors of your elastics, my
friend says I should get yellow and orange so it looks like summer,
because I will be getting them in the summer.

From March 1st to March 11, I participated in the Arctic Winter
Games. They were held in the Kenai Peninsula area. I was in
curling. It was fun. On my team there was: Chelsea (skip),
Sarah (third), Kelly (second) and me (lead). We came in fourth
place and there were five teams.
We stayed at Soldatna High School and we slept in bunk beds. The
opening and closing ceremonies were really awesome! There were
dancers, singers, people that spoke about how great it was to have
these games in Alaska and best of all, while walking in, we were
projected onto these huge screens! It was so much fun!
The next day, the curlers (there was around forty of us) were bussed to
Homer. It was a two hour bus ride! We would spend two hours
on the bus there, curl, have supper and take a two hour bus ride back
to Soldatna. We saw the Augustine volcano that was puffing away
in the sunlight! They had changed a hockey arena into a curling
rink! The curling/hockey rink was on the spit. Homer never had
even heard of the game of curling, so you could see why they didn’t have a
rink. They even asked the head official if they needed skaters to
take messages back and forth between ends! Silly!
The first couple of days, you can’t guess what they were feeding
us. It was mostly stuff that I couldn’t even name! It
tasted like plastic! We had to walk for ten minutes before we
came to the school with food. That’s when we decided we weren’t
coming back. Then they started bringing out fresh fish from the
ocean but we didn’t know because we didn’t come back. The people
in Homer started to open up their fridges to us and brought : lasagna,
sandwiches, spaghetti, pizza, lots of fruit and a couple
desserts. It was delicious.

There was a little caterpillar named John. He wanted to be a hero, but
every one laughs at him. Years after, when he was a butterfly, a colony
of crab spiders came. They ate many caterpillars and butterflies.
Then the butterfly knew that this was his chants to become a hero.
There was a group of them how lived. When one of them was on watch he
saw that a bird ate one of the spiders. He told every one. They knew
that the bird would also eat them. Then he thought’’ maybe they could
scare them away’’. He tried many things, but none of them sounded right.
After a long time he found the right sound. He made it louder and
scared them away. They finally liked him. After that he was the king of
the butterflies.

My Family are Mathematical Maniacs
One Monday morning I
woke up to find my mom telling me how much time I had to: brush my
teeth, have breakfast, and catch the bus. Everybody in my family are
smart except, me I don't get it, I think I was taken home by the wrong parents.
I’m off to school, it will be another
miserable day for me because we have a test today and I didn’t even study for
it. After a long
exhausting test I am finally done, it wasn't my fault that I
didn’t know 1.1 was the same as 1.10 well I flunked another one of
those weird tests. My
brother loves school, he thinks tests and quizzes are fun to do, he
freaks me out sometimes.
Another miserable day for me because I:
flunked a test, got sent to the office, did I mention I almost
missed my bus and I came to my parents fighting over math
questions... what a great day! I’m able to get to my room before
they saw me, after a mathematical supper my parents asked me how school
was. I told them I flunked a test, got sent to the office and I almost
missed my bus; they told me that I was grounded once again. Life
never changes, I am always grounded; the only person that gets to go to
his friends' house is my nerdy little brother.
Today my mom was not the same, she didn’t even tell us what we were going to do, she just got up and
made coffee. I got up, got on the bus, and went to school. Today at school
we had a quiz on math and wouldn’t you know it, I aced the quiz, everyone
thought I cheated so I had to redo the test I aced. I guess my
parents gave me smart powers or something. I told my parents that I
aced the test and they gave me permission to go to my friends'
house. I like being smart. The next morning I got up to hear my
parents shocked and yelling ”An A+”. They thought that they were
reading the wrong report card they couldn’t believe it. I knew at that
moment two years of grounding was finished. After school I waited for
my nerdy little brother; he did not look happy when he got off the bus,
I asked him what was wrong and he told me he failed an important test,
I felt so bad because my parents were going to ground him big time. I
thought of a great idea. I would tell my parents he failed because I was
bugging him all night. They fell for it and we both got two weeks of
grounding, he thanked me so much, I said to him “you owe me big
time” and he agreed.

First off with the . . .
SPITING SPIDER
The spiting spider is one of the world’s slowest spiders,
but it does not need that special feature because it only spits at its
prey.
JUMPING SPIDER
The jumping spider can jump from place to place in a flash. It
eats the same food as other spiders, but often the faster the prey and the
tastier it is and that is no challenge for the jumping spider.
ROSE HAIR TARANTELLA
The rose hair tarantella, and many other species of tarantellas
around the world, have poisenous hairs all over them. And those who own
them must clean the cage with an oxygen mask and a pair of yellow
rubber gloves.
. . . and that’s all for today folks!

A LITTLE ABOUT BOBBY ORR
When my dad was growing up Bobby Orr was a great defenseman. He played
for the Boston Bruins, during his career he scored The
Stanley Cup winner against the St.Louis Blues. He was my favorite
defenseman that ever lived. My dad said that one time he got in a fight
with a veteran and the veteran said that it was the hardest fight he
had ever been in and Bobby Orr almost won the fight. We have a picture
of him holding The Stanley Cup and his arms were so big. My favorite
number is number 4 because I also play defense. I want to grow up to be
like him because he was so good and he could skate so smoothly!
