Zenith Space Mission 2007
Space Debates
Since the beginning of time, the Universe and Space Exploration have
intrigued, inspired, and even frightened people. Science Fiction novels
and films often depict what life may be like in the future. Research
and fiction have often fueled debates about space exploration and other
related issues.
In this section, astronauts, mission control, parents, teachers and
guests are invited to post their ideas about some of the issues or 'big
ideas' people still continue to discuss and debate today in the area of
space exploration and the Universe itself.
Listed below are some of the issues to be discussed although everyone
is welcome to add their own. Those contributing are encouraged to think
through their arguments and ideas before posting them. Please post a
'fat' answer. This means that you provide proof for your thoughts and
explain why you think or believe something. Don't forget to read
people's ideas and let the discussions begin!
Some issues/ questions to discuss:
Should humans dump their garbage in Space to help keep the Earth garbage free?
Do extra-terrestrials exist?
Should humans establish colonies on other planets?
Should we continue to send humans into Space?
Should we allow anyone from the general public go into Space
provided they have enough money to pay their way? What are the
implications of this (health, danger, benefits, ect.)?
A funeral home is offering the dead a sure way of getting closer to the
heavens and are willing to dump some of their ashes into Space. The
prices begin at $900. The more you pay, the farther in Space your body
will be dumped. What do you think of this idea?
If one country lands on a planet first or colonizes it first, do they have a right to "own" that planet?
